org to apply on the official application Santa Maria-Bonita School District CUSTODIAL SUPERVISOR Brief Description of Job Under the direction of the Administrator of Maintenance and Operations, plan, coordinate and supervise a comprehensive custodial care program of the district.
Provide technical service to staff of the district.
Plan and present in-service training programs.
Evaluate and test custodial products and equipment.
Assist and advise site administrators with regard to building care and cleaning of the site.
Example of Duties and Responsibilities 1.
Plans, schedules, and coordinates maintenance and cleaning programs.
2.
Confers with district personnel relative to the maintenance, care and cleaning of school facilities.
Assist site administrators by recommending cleaning schedules, outines and work loads.
3.
Assigns custodial personnel to care for and clean district facilities as required.
Prepares activity schedules and calendars for custodial personnel.
4.
Reviews and inspects school facilities to ensure against safety hazards and to ensure that a high standard of cleanliness is maintained.
5.
Request and prepare work orders necessary to provide an effective preventive custodial care and maintenance program.
6.
Assist in budget planning for custodial services.
7.
Makes recommendation regarding purchase of custodial supplies and equipment and orders supplemental custodial supplies through analysis of data processing print-outs.
Makes recommendations for purchase of new products and equipment.
8.
Maintain and administer the District's school size/custodial ratio intention.
9.
Interview and screen prospective custodial personnel.
Make recommendations concerning staffing of custodians at various locations.
10.
Trains and instructs custodial personnel in the performance of cleaning functions.
Assists with developing and implementing training programs for custodial personnel.
11.
Evaluates custodial personnel.
Makes recommendations regarding discipline, termination, promotion, or reassignments.
12.
Notifies Personnel of needed substitutes.
13.
Drives a service vehicle to and from custodial operation work sites.
14.
Respond to emergency call-outs on nights and weekends.
15.
Establish and maintain liaison with vendors and District personnel, relative to testing and use of new products and new methods of cleaning.
16.
Maintain records and prepare reports.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of:
oMethods, materials and equipment utilized in a cleaning and building maintenance operation.
oPrinciples, methods and procedures of organization, supervision and employee motivation.
oRequirements for maintaining school facilities in a safe, clean, and sanitary condition.
oSafe working methods and procedures.
oIn-service and training programs and techniques.
oPrincipals and techniques of supervisor, work evaluation and training.
oRecord keeping techniques.

oAccurately estimate time and materials for the custodial operation.
oPlan, organize, coordinate, and supervise cleaning.
oMaintain a variety of files and records.
oTrain, supervise and evaluate personnel.
oMaintain accurate records and prepare reports.
oWrite memos, instructional and training handbooks/manuals.
oSpeak before groups and make presentations.
oEstablish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
oPlan and organize work.
oObserve health and safety regulations.
oCommunicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Physical Abilities:
Seeing to inspect work.
Hearing and speaking to exchange information and make presentations.
Sitting or standing for extended periods of time.
Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling moderately heavy objects.
Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally.
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate hand tools and custodial equipment.
Education:
oGraduation from high school.
Two years of college coursework preferred.
Experience:
oFour years of increasingly responsible experience in custodial work, including two years in a supervisory capacity.
Licenses and other Requirements:
oValid and appropriate California Driver's License.
Incumbent must have an acceptable driving record and must qualify for insurability by the District's insurance carrier.

Regular exposure to fumes, dust, and odors.
Seasonal heat and cold or adverse weather conditions.
